We are looking to recruit students and researchers keen to work on Supramolecular Chemistry research projects that will typically consist of a combination of synthetic and analytical chemistry.
Undergraduate Summer Projects
Summer projects provide undergraduates with an excellent opportunity to experience full time postgraduate style academic research. Motivated students gain both practical and project management skills, and hopefully contribute to research publications. For example, results from a previous summer intern project were published in the RSC journal Chemical Communications.
If you are interested in carrying out a summer project, the best time to contact Nick to discuss possibilities is during the Autumn term preceding the Summer vacation you would want to carry out a project. This is to allow for the preparation of the best quality applications for funding to support the placement.
Please note, funding sources often limit these opportunities to undergraduates in the middle years of their degrees (i.e. not those in their first or final years).
Undergraduate BSc and MChem Chemistry Projects
Each year research projects are offered to Lancaster University undergraduates as part of the BSc and MChem Chemistry Research Project modules (CHEM381 and CHEM400). Results from previous undergraduate research projects have been included in papers published in peer-reviewed chemistry journals on catenane and rotaxane synthesis, and also on the preparation and structural analysis of a peptide-displaying [1]rotaxane.
Project outlines are distributed by the Department of Chemistry in the second half of the preceding academic year. If you have any queries about the projects that will be/are being offered, please do contact Nick.
